Fargo season 3 trailer: Ewan McGregor in a double role plays two brothers locked in bitter rivalry
There's the landscape blanketed in snow, the distinctive theme music, and a sense of what Jeeves and his cohorts would call "impending doom".
But the new, extended trailer for Fargo's season 3 shows that apart from these features, the latest episodes are going to be quite a different tale than the one offered up in the previous two seasons.
While season one and season two had completely different stories (and casts), they did have the Solverson family as a connecting factor. However, at this point, Fargo season 3 — doesn't seem to have anything to do with the Solversons.
Instead, creator Noah Hawley has picked a story about brothers Emmit and Ray Stussy — both played by Ewan McGregor — whose sibling rivalry leads to a twisted path that begins with petty theft but soon leads to murder, mobsters and cutthroat competitive bridge.
But police chief Gloria Burgle (Carrie Coon) isn't going to let shady developments take place in her town without holding someone accountable.
Will season 3 stand up to the extremely high standards set up Fargo's previous two seasons? That remains to be seen, but for now, McGregor's double act at least seems to be as promising.
Fargo season 3 premieres April 2017 on FX.
