Based on the Emmy Award-winning series, DuckTales will once again take viewers along as Scrooge McDuck, his curious and mischief-making grand-nephews Huey, Dewey and Louie, the temperamental Donald Duck and their trusty team, Webby Vanderquack, Launchpad McQuack and Mrs. Beakley, embark on high-flying adventures around the world.
David Tennant stars as Scrooge McDuck; Danny Pudi, Ben Schwartz and Bobby Moynihan as the voices of Huey, Dewey and Louie, respectively; Kate Micucci as Webby Vanderquack; Beck Bennett as Launchpad McQuack and Toks Olagundoye as Mrs. Beakley.
DuckTales is produced by Disney Television Animation. Matt Youngberg (Ben 10: Omniverse) serves as executive producer, with Francisco Angones as story editor and co-producer, and Sean Jimenez as art director.
And now there’s our first look at the new show’s characters and story.
Here are a few things about the reboot:
Disney is keeping the infectious original theme song.
The story-line seems to revolve around the three notorious nephews motivating McDuck to get back to his old adventuring ways.
"Are you really our uncle?," asks Huey.
"How old are you?," queries Dewey.
Louie straight-out says to Scrooge "You used to be a big deal. What happened to you?"
Those who have seen the one and a half minute preview will notice some clues which suggest that Scrooge, the richest duck in the world, might be experiencing some financial crisis: the camera shows that there is less than the usual amount of money currently stored in McDuck’s fabled money bin.
But don't worry, Scrooge shakes off whatever is bothering him and returns to true form. He is then seen 'Indiana-Jones-ing' his way through a series of booby traps proclaiming "I'm Scrooge McDuck. I made my name being tougher than the toughies and smarter than the smarties."
Disney XD, the channel behind DuckTales also has a cartoon of Guardians of the Galaxy, Earth's Mightiest Heroes, so the action theme of the channel definitely matches up to the story line of DuckTales.
Tennant sounds nothing like what he did in his most famous role as the 10th doctor in Doctor Who.
Here's the first look at Ducktales:
DuckTales does not have a release date yet, but is slated to premiere sometime this summer on Disney XD.
