Starring Keira Knightley as the Sugar Plum Fairy, Intertellar actress Mackenzie Foy as Clara, Helen Mirren as Mother Ginger, Morgan Freeman as godfather Drosselmeyer, the movie is inspired by ETA Hoffmann's classic tale The Nutcracker and the Mouse King.

The live-action remake largely takes place in a strange and mysterious parallel world home to Land of Snowflakes, Land of Flowers and Land of Sweets.

The Nutcracker and the Four Realms is directed by Lasse Hallstrom and produced by Mark Gordon and Larry Franco. It will tell the story of a young girl whose toy nutcracker comes to life and transports her into a magical world.

Previously, this was supposed to be the release date of the live-action remake of Mulan, another Disney movie. Among the company's other upcoming live-action remakes are Dumbo, Aladdin, and The Lion King.

Aladdin recently made headlines when the main cast, consisting of Mena Massoud as the titular character, Naomi Scott as his love interest Jasmine and Will Smith as the Genie. The Lion King, on the other hand, has been voiced by Donald Glover, James Earl Jones, Billy Eichner and Seth Rogen.
