After winning the Filmfare Award for the Most Promising Debut (Male), Punjabi actor Diljit Dosanjh has silenced his critics who considered his performance in Abhsihek Kapoor's Udta Punjab a flash in the pan. He has now signed the join production of Karan Johar and Salman Khan, starring Akshay Kumar.
The Asian Age reports that Kumar was mighty impressed by Dosanjh's previous work in Punjabi cinema. So he offered him to share the screen space with him in the huge project announced by the trio last month.
The untitled project will be directed by National Award-winning Punjabi filmmaker Anurag Singh and is slated for a 2018 release. It is reportedly based on the Battle of Saragarhi that took place in 1897, as reported earlier.
Akshay Kumar has been signed on to play Havaldar Ishar Singh, a military leader of 21 Sikh soldiers who led his army to a deathly war against Afghani invaders. Reportedly, Ajay Devgn is also playing a similar character in his upcoming film Sons of Sardar : Battle of Saragarhi, the sequel to his 2012 film, Son of Sardar.
Also, Devgn had roped in his Once Upon A Time In Mumbai co-star Randeep Hooda to play an important part in the film. Johar and Khan might have cast Dosanjh for the same role in their project.
As a result, there were rumours of a rift between long-time friends Devgn and Khan, who have collaborated on films like Sanjay Leela Bhansali's 1999 romantic saga Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam and Vipul Shah's 2009 musical London Dreams. Devgn is already on sour terms with Johar, who recently discussed his fallout with Devgn's wife Kajol, in his autobiography An Unsuitable Boy.
With Khan reportedly making a cameo in his film and Kumar helming the lead role, Johar may have gained an upper hand. Dosanjh joining the cast is just the icing on the cake.
