Dileep's custody extended by additional day; Kerala Police to continue actor's interrogation
Malayalam actor Dileep's woes won't be ending anytime soon. On Friday, 14 July, a Kerala court extended his police custody by a day.
Earlier on Wednesday, Angamaly magistrate court, Kochi, had sent Dileep into police custody for two days. The police had submitted 19 pieces of evidence before the court.
Ram Kumar, the counsel for the accused, has opposed the findings of the police and argued that all charges raised against Dileep were baseless and should be dismissed. He further termed the actor's arrest as illegal. On the bail application, the court said it could be moved once the police custody ends. The case was heard in the chamber of magistrate.
However, when Dileep was produced before the court on Friday morning, it did not grant him any relief — as reported by News 18.
Instead, it extended his police custody until 5 pm on Saturday, 15 July.
During this time, the Kerala Police will continue its interrogation of the actor.
Dileep was arrested by the Kerala Police on Tuesday, 11 July, for allegedly conspiring in the February 2017 assault and abduction of a popular Malayalam film actress.
The developments in the case have exposed the fault lines in the Malayalam film industry, and led to calls for greater transparency and openness in its dealings.
