Vidya Balan is back and how! This year, the National Award-winning actress was seen in Srijit Mukherji's Begum Jaan, set during the Partition, as the madame of a brothel. Now, she is all set to cast her spell in Suresh Triveni's upcoming film Tumhari Sulu.
The teaser of the film was released on 14 September and it gives us an all-too-brief glimpse of what the film (and Vidya) have to offer.
Tumhari Sulu features Balan as Sulochana (Sulu) who leads a double life — regular homemaker by day and popular radio jockey by night (this RJ avatar is very different to Balan's previous role in Rajkumar Hirani's Lage Raho Munna Bhai ).
Balan is instructed by Neha Dhupia (in a voice-over) to sound "sexy" while speaking on radio. Sulu is a sort of agony aunt who entices people into telling her their problems.
She personifies the notion of being extraordinary while seeming ordinary. Sulu is the quintessential 'homely Indian housewife' and also exudes the vibes of the very modern, empowered woman of today.
Tumhari Sulu also stars Manav Kaul as Balan's husband in the film. Joining the cast of the film are Neha Dhupia and RJ Malishka.
The film is produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar of T-Series along with Tanuj Garg, Atul Kasbekar and Shanti Sivaram Maini. Tumhari Sulu is slated to release on 1 December 2017.
