The upcoming biopic on Sanjay Dutt's life, which features Ranbir Kapoor in the lead role, has been a subject of interest for many months, whether it has to do with the weight changes Kapoor has had to undergo, or the content of the film. The actor has now come forward to say that through this untitled biopic, Dutt is being very honest about his life with this film.
"He’s admitting to his mistakes. We’re not portraying a Gandhi like character. We’re portraying a very fraud man. He’s someone who is loved and disliked. He’s the most controversial, and to have the ability to tell about your life so honestly, and to make a movie out of it is very brave," he said in an interview to Deccan Chronicle.
He added that there is much to take away from the film if the audience learns from Dutt's life, and says that he does not think he would have been able to portray himself in a negative light or be so honest about his life if he were in Dutt's position.
The film's plot will revolve around Dutt's drug addiction problem and consequent rehabilitation, his involvement in the Bombay serial blasts, his arrest under TADA (Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act), and his incarceration and ultimate release from jail.
Also starring in this biopic are Manisha Koirala as Dutt's mother Nargis, Paresh Rawal as his father Sunil, and Dia Mirza as his wife Manyata. Additionally, it is being speculated that Anushka Sharma will play the role of a journalist in the film, while Sonam Kapoor too, has a role, which is reportedly an fictitious amalgamation of all of Dutt's love interests.
Up until a few months ago, Ranbir Kapoor sported an overweight look for the film, but now, the actor has beefed up for the same role; it is evident that many phases of Sanjay Dutt's life will be portrayed in this biopic.
