Ranveer Singh might be collaborating with actor and filmmaker Shekhar Kapur for his next venture, which is reportedly Kapur's long awaited dream project Paani.

Paani was shelved by Yash Raj Films (YRF) back in 2015, which put Kapur's dreams of bringing his futuristic magnum opus to life to a screeching halt, however now speculation is rife that Ranveer might just be the one that puts life back into Kapur's vision.

Sushant Singh Rajput was the initial choice as the lead for Paani as the actor waited patiently for Kapur's masterpiece to unfurl. However after waiting for over one and a half years (a time in which Rajput reportedly lost out 12 on major projects) the film was finally put on the back burner with no foreseeable plans of revival.

“Sushant is very upset because he stood by Shekhar. When YRF backed out of his ambitious project, Sushant too discontinued as a YRF talent. Also, Ranveer and Sushant have a cold war brewing for a long time. It all began after Sushant was unceremoniously removed from Aditya Chopra’s Befikre and Ranveer was cast in his place," said an unverified source, according to a DNA report.

According to a Bollywood Life report, Paani was initially going to see Hrithik Roshan in the lead, with subsequent reports of Vivek Oberoi replacing him. Later, it was said that YRF would come on board as a co-producer of the movie, and the film would finally see Rajput in the lead.

Kapur is known for making critically acclaimed classics like Bandit Queen, Mr India, Masoom, Four Feathers and Elizabeth (which got nominated for the Academy Awards).

Ranveer is currently busy shooting for Sanjay Leela Bhansali's period war drama Padmavati, and has confirmed his role in Kabir Khan's next titled '83; a biopic in which Ranveer will play Kapil Dev. The film chronicles the 1983 World Cup win for India in cricket.
