Aishwarya Rai refuses to shoot for Fanney Khan, reportedly over Manish Malhotra-designed costumes
Aishwarya Rai stars with Anil Kapoor in the upcoming film Fanney Khan. It is said that her character is a glamorous singing sensation in the film, so it doesn't come as a surprise that the outfits she will wear, designed by Manish Malhotra, will be stylish.
It was recently reported that the actress cancelled her entire schedule for the shoot of the film, leaving producers Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra and Prernaa Arora surprised. The actress was unhappy with the costumes designed by Manish Malhotra. He will now rework them so that they are edgier and modelled on singer Beyoncé's fashion aesthetic.
"We were all set to shoot with Aishwarya this week but the costumes were not to her satisfaction. Costumes play a big role in the film as she portrays the character of a diva. She is creatively involved in every detail and since the costumes were not ready, she didn’t want to start work just yet. When I learnt this, I decided to postpone the shoot. Aishwarya wants to look perfect in the film and she will not accept anything that is not up to the mark," said Arora to Mumbai Mirror.
She was scheduled to shoot with Rajkummar Rao, who plays her love interest in the film. As a result of her displeasure over the clothes, the shoot has been postponed to after Diwali. Anil Kapoor, who plays a doting father and struggling singer, has finished shooting his portions in the film.
Fanney Khan is a musical comedy film that marks the directorial debut of Atul Manjrekar. It is an official adaptation of Everybody's Famous!, an Oscar-nominated Dutch film. It is slated to release on 13 April 2018.
