The science fiction anthology examines the often dark and apocalyptic effects of new technologies on human society in an alternate version of the present. The show, created by Charlie Booker, gathered critical acclaim and a growing cult-status after its first two seasons' successful run at Channel 4. Netflix first started streaming the show but went on to acquire, and produce the next two seasons of the show.
The sci-fi show, which often meanders into the horror genre, has won two Primetime Emmys for their third season offering San Junipero, starring Gugu-Mbatha Raw and Mackenzie Davis. In classic Black Mirror tradition, no details on the content of the fifth season have been revealed and are unlikely to be given out till its premier on Netflix.
“You don’t want to hit the same bell again, even though it’s tempting. We have to be unpredictable with the show,” said Brooker. “We love making the show. It’s an utter privilege to be able to curate six films. It’s the stuff of dreams,” said show runner Annabel Jones, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.
