Bipasha Basu on London Fashion Show row: 'I refuse to be a victim of arm twisting'
For those of you who have seen Siddhart Anand's 2008 romantic comedy Bachna Ae Haseeno, you would remember the scene in which Bipasha Basu throws a tantrum backstage after her performance and slams the door on her manager after firing her.
A similar incident happened off the screen in London when Basu was scheduled to walk the ramp as the showstopper at the India-Pakistan London Fashion Show. However, Mumbai Mirror reports that she backed out of her commitment in the eleventh hour and threw tantrums in the hotel she was lodged at.
The Indian Express reports that she refused to come out of her room or talk to anyone hours before the show. When her manager, Sana Kapoor of Caa Kwan Talent tried to coax her out of the room, she abused her and threw her out of the room. She also insulted and slammed the door on the face of Gurbani Kaur, the founder and chief organiser of the show.
The Times of India reports that Basu had informed Kapoor that she would be travelling with her husband, actor Karan Singh Grover, to London and asked her to extend their stay at the hotel. Owing to a full house, Kapoor did the bookings for another hotel which cost the agency 600 pounds per night. They also paid her the advance fees and provided her two local sim cards with a five pound recharge each. However, Basu threw it on her face rebuking her publicly of why there was only a five pound recharge.
Yahoo.com reports that a total sum of 7,800 pounds, besides travel expenses in cash at the airport, were spent on Basu and Grover. Sunny Surani, the in-charge of Universal Entertainment which is the one-stop shop for all Hindi films being shot in London, claimed that Basu cashed in on the expenses of the organisers for her "honeymoon money". She added that they will approach the visa and immigration department asking them to debar Basu from working in the country in the future. The organisers confirmed that they had travel and financial documents, CCTV footage of the hotel and recorded phone and message conversations as evidence, as reported by Mumbai Mirror.
Basu's team, however, clarified with a statement, "Bipasha has always had a spotless reputation for more than 15 years in the industry and has been a thorough professional. Unfortunately, the organisers didn't honour their commitment as promised in terms of hospitality and logistics, on landing Bipasha had to book her own hotel stay. What happened was completely unprofessional on the organisers' part."
Basu also tweeted that she has made a 15-year career out of professionalism and self-respect so giving media space to such baseless allegations is futile.
Hearing about a con woman talking utter rubbish about my work ethics and some section of the media giving them space too.

15 years you don't last any business being unprofessional. You last because you are clear and particular and have self respect. — Bipasha Basu (@bipsluvurself) March 6, 2017
She also took to Facebook to pen down an open letter that further clarified her stance. She requested her fans and the media to get a holistic perspective and said that she wouldn't give in to bullying or arm twisting by the organisers.
