It was earlier reported that Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Anil Kapoor will reunite onscreen after 17 years for a Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's Fanney Khan.
Now, Deccan Chronicle reports that Fanney Khan will be the remake of Dominique Deruddere's 2000 Dutch release Everybody's Famous. It will be a musical drama and will be helmed by debutante director Atul Manjrekar. Also, as an additional bonus, Anil will lend his voice to a few songs in the film and Aishwarya is likely to follow with a single as well.
The film will be co-produced by Mehra and Prernaa Arora's KriArj Entertainment. Pinkvilla quotes Arora as saying, "The team starts building the set in Mumbai next month and Anil will kick off shooting in the first week of August. Aishwarya joins him by the month-end and the film will wrap up in a start-to-finish schedule by October."
Aishwarya will return to the silver screen two years after her last release, Karan Johar's romantic drama Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. The same report quotes Arora as saying, "Ash was blown away by her glamorous and 'highly stylised' character. We took the script to her two months ago and she immediately gave her nod."
While Aishwarya and Kapoor will not be romantically paired in Fanney Khan, it will be their second musical since they also shared the screen space in Subhash Ghai's 1999 film Taal. Fanney Khan is likely to revolve around a 17 year old aspiring singer whose career takes off once her unemployed father kidnaps the top singer of the country. The original film, Everybody's Famous, was nominated in the Best Foreign Film category at the 73rd Academy Awards.
Given their international appeal, Aishwarya and Anil are sure to spell magic on the big screen yet again, after Taal and Satish Kaushik's 2000 romantic drama Humara Dil Aapke Paas Hai.
