Anaarkali of Aarah trailer: Will Swara Bhaskar's role as a small town dancer prove to be career defining?

Swara Bhaskar has been slowly but surely building the hype of her upcoming film, Avinash Das' Anaarkali of Aarah. She invited her friends Sonam Kapoor and Karan Johar to launch the teaser and posters of the film respectively. But for the trailer launch, Bhaskar did not need an established Hindi film celebrity to back her product.

She arrived for the trailer launch, with the cast and crew of the film, in style. They reached the venue in auto rickshaws, keeping in tandem with rustic theme of the film, set in a small town in Bihar. While the teaser just skimmed the surface of Bhaskar's character, the two and a half minute trailer speaks volumes of both her character and the plot of the film.

The first half of the trailer explores the glamorous side of Bhaskar, who plays the titular character. Anaarkali Aarahwaali is a stage artiste who narrates double meaning jokes and dances on lewd numbers, as hoards of men cheer on. When she is off the stage, she is seen chewing paan masala and dish out sarcastic one-liners at the happenings in her small town.

The second half of the film introduces the antagonist, Sanjay Mishra who is a political big shot. However, the narrative remains central to Anarkali and Mishra just serves as the catalyst in the tension in her life. It is in the second half that we get a glimpse of the strength of her character.

While she is completely aware of her perception in society, she holds immense amount of self-respect and is not willing to compromise with it. While she knows that she sexually excites men for her living, she keeps her business and pleasure poles apart. The second half of the film is expected to show how she navigates her way through the political turmoil she finds herself in.

Anarkali of Aarah is slated to release on 24 March.
