Amruta Fadnavis to promote education for girls and Indian handlooms at New York Fashion Week
Amruta Fadnavis, the wife of Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, is all set to walk the ramp at the New York Fashion Week in Manhattan on Thursday in a bid to promote education for the girl child, and Indian handlooms.
Fadnavis will be the showstopper for Chasa Institute of Design and Technology, a Pune-based college that educates many economically disadvantaged students.
In a show choreographed by Lubna Adams, she will be walking in a handloom Indo-western ensemble designed by the students.
The students will be presenting 15 designs and the models will be walking the ramp with posters that stress on women's education and handloom.
Speaking to The Indian Express Amruta said, “I will be walking the ramp to spread the message of girls’ education as these designs have come from girl children who are daughters of farmers and porters. It is a novel initiative. I believe when we educate a girl child, we educate a family. And when the family is educated, the country moves ahead.”
A few months ago, the politician's wife had walked the ramp for National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) to promote some weaving forms of Maharashtra that are on the verge of extinction.
Amruta Fadnavis, apart from being the deputy vice president of a private bank, is also a singer and has sung a song for Prakash Jha's Jai Gangaajal starring Priyanka Chopra.
