Alia Bhatt to play Sanjay Dutt, Pooja Bhatt's daughter in Mahesh Bhatt's Sadak sequel?

This past December, Mahesh Bhatt's directorial Sadak completed 25 years since its release back in 1991.

Now, there are reports of Vishesh Films planning a sequel to the highest grosser of 1991.

NDTVreports that Mahesh is planning to return to direction 18 years after his last, the box-office disaster Kartoos in 1999. He is planning to cast Alia Bhatt in the role of the daughter of Sanjay Dutt and Pooja Bhatt's characters. They were romantically paired with each other in the prequel.

DNA reports that Sanjay will be seen in a rescue mission to get his kidnapped daughter back. This storyline sounds like a blend of Sanjay Gadhvi's 2008 crime thriller Kidnap and Imtiaz Ali's 2014 film Highway. While Dutt was seen rescuing his daughter, played by Minissha Lamba, in Kidnap; Alia was seen getting kidnapped by Randeep Hooda's character in Highway.

The same report states that Pooja will also be seen in the film. However, she will not share the screen space with her sister Alia as she will be seen only in the flashback scenes in the film. Pooja has been dropping hints of a sequel on the cards by posting telling pictures of Dutt on Instagram.

If the film materialises, it will be the sixth time Mahesh collaborates with Dutt. They have previously worked together in Naam (1986), Kabzaa (1988), Sadak, Gumrah (1993) and Kartoos. This will also mark Alia's first film under her father Mahesh and uncle Mukesh Bhatt's production banner Vishesh Films.

Mahesh is currently busy promoting his next production, Srijit Mukherji's period drama Begum Jaan. Alia has taken a break from acting before she starts shooting for Ayan Mukerji's Dragon this September. Dutt is currently busy shooting for Omung Kumar's Bhoomi which is also a father-daughter story, in which Aditi Rao Hydari will play the role of his daughter.
