Watch: Akshay Kumar, Taapsee Pannu demonstrate self-defense moves ahead of Women's Day
Ahead of International Women's Day on 8 March, Taapsee Pannu and Akshay Kumar demonstrated some much-needed self defense moves on Twitter.
As they gear up for their upcoming film, Shivam Nair's action thriller Naam Shabana, which has Pannu in the lead role and Kumar in a cameo, their martial arts demonstration transported the viewers back to their impressive combat in Neeraj Pandey's action thriller Baby two years ago.
Kumar has advocated the instruction of martial arts for the purpose of self-defense for a long time now.
He has even collaborated with Shiv Sena chairperson Aditya Thackeray to give self-defense classes to Mumbai women free of cost. He also expressed his concerns for women safety through a video on Twitter after the Bangalore mass molestation on New Year's Eve last year.
Similarly, Pannu also became a prominent role model for women when she played the character of a resilient victim of sexual assault in Aniruddha Roy Choudhary's courtroom drama Pink last year. However, unlike in Pink, where she takes the legal route to punish her assaulter, she assumes an aggressive tone in the new video. She encourages women to defend themselves before their sexual predators gain a psychological advantage over them.
I understand we are the 2nd largest population in the world but we can surely afford to have respectable physical distance in queues! ♀️

She advises them not to get overwhelmed by male touch and retaliate either by shouting, running away or pelting a stone at the assaulter.
She also demonstrates a basic Kudo move, which she calls 'Kohni Maar'. She then takes help from Kumar, whom she introduced as her martial arts guru, to show how one's elbow can be used to attack their one's assaulter and defend oneself from sexual assault in the process.
Don't just freeze...ACT & REACT coz ur biggest weapon is with YOU! Watch, learn & show your move with #KohniMaar! Kya pata kab kaam aa jaye pic.twitter.com/ugDEtRvouz — Akshay Kumar (@akshaykumar) March 6, 2017
Naam Shabana is a spin-off of Baby and is produced by Pandey. It also stars Anupam Kher, Danny Danzongpa, Manoj Bajpayee, Prithviraj Sukumaran and Elli Avram. It is slated to release on 31 March.
