The shooting of Reema Kagti's upcoming film, Gold, which is set against the backdrop of the 1948 London Olympics, has kicked off in United Kingdom. Before flying out, the cast had been receiving training from former captain of the Indian hockey team, Sandeep Singh, among other coaches, according to Mumbai Mirror. The film has an ensemble cast consisting of Akshay Kumar, Kunal Kapoor, Amit Sadh and Sunny Kaushal.
Since Gold is a patriotic sports drama, it will bring to the screen independent India's first Olympic gold, thanks to the Indian hockey team in the 1948 London Olympics. To make the actors look like real sportsmen, they were reportedly coached under the watchful eye of some of the finest sportsmen of the country.
The makers are currently holding auditions abroad for local actors to play rival players in the film. Once the whole cast is finalised, the actors will return to a strict training regime under an international coach, as per the same Mumbai Mirror report.
Kumar, whose Toilet: Ek Prem Katha is in its promotional stage, will join the cast of Gold in the month of July. Kumar has also been cleverly integrating his patriotic sentiments with his films by releasing them on either Independence Day or Republic Day weekends. Toilet: Ek Prem Katha is slated for an 11 August release. Gold, being no exception, will release on the 2018 Independence Day weekend.
