Aashiq Surrender Hua: Wedding song from Badrinath Ki Dulhania is tacky yet catchy
After the title song of Shashank Khaitan's romantic comedy Badrinath Ki Dulhania, the makers have released yet another wedding song from the film. 'Aashiq Surrender Hua' is set in a traditional Rajasthani palace wedding, with the entire structure lit up to a rather glitzy degree.
Varun Dhawan dominates a major chunk of the song with his orchestrated moves which come as a surprise as he is quite a swift and spontaneous dancer otherwise. The synthetic set also adds to the pretense in the song. It is Alia Bhatt, who steals the show with her screen presence and animated expressions. Her dancing moves do not disappoint either.
The choreography, though quite charged, has little novelty to offer. A couple of shots like Dhawan dumping his phone inside his shirt and the last shot of Bhatt snapping Dhawan back to consciousness are done impressively.
The music by Amaal Malik is not as commendable as some of his tracks from last year, like 'Soch Na Sake' from Raja Krishna Menon's Airlift, 'Kar Gayi Chul' and 'Buddhu Sa Mann' from Shakun Batra's family drama and Kapoor and Sons and 'Besabriyan' from Neeraj Pandey's sports biopic MS Dhoni: The Untold Story.
Though Dhawan admits that he forced Amaal to lend him his voice, Amaal should leave that to his brother Armaan Malik who adorns every song with a unique touch. It is refreshing to listen to Shreya Ghoshal sing a fun-filled number noticeably for the first time after 'Nanga Punga' from Rajkumar Hirani's science fiction satire PK over two years ago. But it glaringly lacks the mischief of that song. The lyrics by Shabbir Ahmed are catchy which serves the purpose of the song.
Badrinath Ki Dulhania also stars Aparshakti Khurrana, Girish Karnad and Gauhar Khan. It is produced by Karan Johar's Dharma Productions and is the sequel to Khaitan's directorial debut Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania. It is slated to release on 10 March.
