Aamir Khan to play a 40 minute extended cameo in Zaira Wasim's Secret Superstar
Last year, Shah Rukh Khan impressed the audience with his 30 minute cameo in his home production, Gauri Shinde's slice of life drama Dear Zindagi. He played a counselor who helped the protagonist, played by Alia Bhatt, in her quest for self-discovery.
Now, DNA reports that Aamir Khan will play a 40-minute extended cameo in his next production, Advait Chandan's directorial debut, Secret Superstar. He will play a music producer who helps the protagonist, played by Dangal's Zaira Wasim, in her quest for self-discovery as a gifted singer.
Last year, when Aamir unveiled the teaser of the film, we saw him in an outlandish avatar. He sports a 'rockstar' look in the film, wearing a pink ganji that reads 'Sexy...something' and a spiked and coloured hairdo. He is surrounded by two sidekicks in shiny silver gear and blonde wigs. They remind you of a certain Ramesh and Suresh from the 5 Star commercial. Khan seems to be a music producer, given his look and his firm belief of there being an objective definition of good music.
Besides a Khan extended cameo, Dear Zindagi and Secret Superstar have another thing in common - the music collaboration. Music composer Amit Trivedi and lyricist Kausar Munir have joined forces yet again to churn out songs for this musical. Given their soulful songs from Dear Zindagi, like 'Love You Zindagi', 'Just Go To Hell', 'Tu Hi Hai' and 'Ae Zindagi' reprise, Secret Superstar is sure to be a liberating ride, musically.
Secret Superstar is directed by Chandan, who has served as an assistant director on acclaimed films like Reema Kagti's romantic ensemble Honeymoon Travels Pvt Ltd, Khan's emotional drama Taare Zameen Par and his wife Kiran Rao's directorial debut Dhobi Ghat.
Aamir is currently occupied with shooting for Vijay Krishna Acharya's period drama Thugs of Hindostan alongside Amitabh Bachchan and Shraddha Kapoor.
Secret Superstar is slated to release on 4 August.
