Delhi’s arterial Ring Road has the highest number of hits on the list of 41 water-logging danger zones identified by the Public Works Department this monsoon as per information under RTI.
There are seven different places along the 87 km long Ring road stretch – among them the Moolchand underpass, the Dhaula Kuan underpass, RTR marg near Moti Bagh flyover – that have been identified as being prone to water-logging. Two metro-stations – Kashmere Gate and Jehangirpuri – are also on the list, so is the buzzing bus terminal at Kashmere Gate.

But there is some hope of relief for the commuters this year. The Delhi High Court on Wednesday in response to a PIL has directed the civic authorities get cracking on unclogging the city’s drains to prevent water-logging in the 41 water-logging prone areas that have been listed by the PWD.
With civic bodies passing the buck from department to department, Gaurav Kumar Bansal, High Court advocate who filed the PIL, says the Delhi High Court’s intervention alone can move the civic bodies to take proactive steps.
“If despite the court orders, there is widespread waterlogging in the city I will file a contempt petition,” says Bansal.
