The media should stop speculating about Sachin Tendulkar’s retirement

Sachin’s record at the moment isn’t bad enough to force him into retirement. Even if you look at the innings he played against New Zealand on Monday, it wasn’t bad. When did 27 off 34 balls become bad? When? The man doesn’t want to go. He isn’t ready. If you’ve trusted him for so long, why not trust him to take the right decision one more time? Sachin isn’t your average cricketer and cricket isn’t a regular sport in India. The media can’t be faulted for raising the issue after he gets bowled three times consecutively, in almost the same manner. No matter how great his record, questions were bound to be asked of Tendulkar, and with age not on his side anymore they were bound to get louder. While Sachin has the freedom to choose when and if he wants to continue playing, it doesn’t mean questions can’t be raised about his form or his place in the team. Sometimes cricketers listen to their inner voices and decide when to call it a day, but sometimes the external ones help.read less read more
