The BJP in Karnataka has failed in its duty to protect North East citizens

When thousands of people flee a state fearing for their lives, it obviously means they lack faith in the state government. The BJP government in Karnataka, too busy with its survival over the last two years, has not done enough in recent times to inspire confidence of even bona fide residents of the state, forget outsiders. The rabid right wing fringe groups continue to pose a threat to the liberal culture of the state. Their repeated attacks on bars, pubs and `inappropriately’ dressed women reveal that the state is too weak to act against lumpen elements. It is no surprise that when threat messages, purportedly issued by anti-social elements of one community, started doing the rounds, the members of the north-eastern states preferred to vacate the state than appeal the government for protection. read less read more

The BJP cannot be held accountable for what clearly seems to be coordinated fear-mongering across Bangalore, Pune, Mumbai and now Hyderabad. The centre must step in to get to the bottom of this before it spills over to other cities and states.read less read more
