Sachin Tendulkar should be allowed to pick which series he wants to play

Sachin Tendulkar is not your average player. There are few records that have survived him and even today there is no doubt about his talent. Like most Indian players he has played well beyond his capacity with the strain of the IPL and World Cup no doubt taking a toll on him. If he wants to sit out one series or even two, there’s nothing wrong as long as he meets fitness requirements when he returns. Why should Sachin be allowed to pick and choose what he wants to do? He is playing for India and not for himself, it is not a personal choice. In team sports, you do not have the luxury. Carlos Puyol has been great for Barcelona and Spain in the past but can he decide whether he gets picked or not? He cannot. Ricky Ponting wasn’t given the option either. The selectors, by allowing Sachin to decide, have basically said Sachin has a seat in the Indian team for life based on his past performances. What he does from this point on… doesn’t matter. And that can’t send the right message to youngsters who want to get into the team.read less read more
