Jayalalithaa is clearly projecting her political power at a pan-Indian level - perhaps with an eye on Prime Ministership. She has a strong base in a big State, and although she shares ideological affi
nity with the NDA, she can, under certain conditions, be the ‘compromise candidate’ of even a Congress-supported or a Third Front alliance. Go Puratchi Thalaivi!
Jayalalithaa will not aim for the office of the Prime Minister because she is acutely aware that her political constituency is Tamil Nadu and not Delhi. She is not Lalu, Mayawati or Mulayam who flit t
o Parliament when they lose power in the state and get back when times change. If all goes well, with bulk of the 39 Lok Sabha seats in Tamil Nadu and her non-Congress network, she is certainly capable of calling the shots though.
