BJP should debate CAG reports instead of stalling Parliament

At the height of the Lokpal debate, all parties, including the BJP, made great hue and cry over the importance of Parliamentary process. And they were right. But the problem with our Parliamentary process is that it more resembles a peak hour traffic jam with parties more eager to obstruct, disrupt, abuse than actually doing something. The BJP's actions are just the latest example of this cross-party strategy. There's nothing democratic or Parliamentary about the absence of debate. The BJP may have chosen to skip a couple of steps in demanding the Prime Minister’s resignation but the demand isn’t entirely impractical given the potential size of the scam. Holding Parliament hostage is perhaps the only way to get the government and Prime Minister’s attention. As the BJP says, if it weren’t for their constant pressure, A Raja might have never resigned as Telecom Minister in 2010. Perhaps holding the government to ransom is the only way to get its attention and goad it into action.read less read more
