Telecom Secy says ‘happy that SC has accepted our plea’

As the SC extended time for fresh 2G auction till next January, telecom secretary R Chandrashekhar said that he was confident of carrying out auction as per schedule.

He also said that all requirements for auction has been taken care of, according to CNBC TV-18.

Chandrashekhar is confident that bidders have adequate time to organise funds.

He said that after the SC verdict should be no more impediments to auction and that auctions should start before November 12. The telecom secretary plans to  auction 1800 MHz first & 800 MHz post that.

He said that the likely timeline for auctions should be around 40 day and that  all steps required for auctions have been taken into account.

The telecom ministry does not want to back out on the auction timeline, telecom secretary R Chandrashekhar told CNBC TV-18.

He feels that deferred payments & spectrum mortgage will help telcos even as some clauses of 2G information memo confound industry as there is confusion on foreign bidders eligibility in auction.
