Mumbai: Malaysia Airlines, the national carrier of Malaysia, expects 15 percent growth of passenger load from India in 2012.
“Despite the economic slowdown worldwide, India is a growth-centric market for us. We are expecting 15 percent growth in terms of passenger load from India in 2012 as compared to the previous year,” Malaysia Airlines Senior Vice President Global Sales & Distribution Duncan Bureau told reporters here.
Malaysia Airlines is connected with five Indian metro cities– New Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai, Mumbai and Hyderabad from its capital city Kuala Lumpur. It currently operates 40 weekly flights to India from Kuala Lumpur with 12 weekly flights from New Delhi to Kuala
Lumpur and 7 weekly flights each to Mumbai, Hyderabad, Chennai and Bengaluru from Kuala Lumpur.

To ease out the seat crunch for Indian passengers, Malaysia Airlines plans to increase the number of current flight frequencies from Mumbai, Chennai and Bangalore to Kuala
Lumpur by another 10 day-time flights. This increase is effective 1st September 2012 and will provide better travel options for the consumers who can enjoy improved connectivity
to destinations in the airline’s network.
“We are receiving positive response from the India market and to continue with such interest, we are providing various opportunities for our customers such as increase in the
frequency of flights from Mumbai, Chennai and Bangalore to Kuala Lumpur,” Bureau said.
The airline offers its passengers traveling on a business class ticket, a complimentary stay in a 5-Star hotel in Malaysia, whereas passengers traveling on Economy can avail a complimentary stay in a 4-Star hotel in Malaysia.
Bureau also said the Malaysia Airlines is on track to join the Oneworld alliance membership around the turn of the year. It is progressively developing bilateral links on code-share with oneworld partners, the latest being Cathay Pacific and Royal Jordanian. It has also added its network to the Global Explorer; the round-the-world fare offered by all members of the alliance and selected other airlines, he added.
