India PC market logs 14.1% decline in Q2: IDC

The overall India PC shipment for Q2 2015 stood at 2.19 million units i.e. a quarter on quarter growth of 1.4 percent over Q1 2015 and year on year drop of 14.1 percent over Q2 2014. The overall consumer PC market recorded 1.15 million units, a quarter on quarter drop of 1.3 percent over Q1 2015. “While there are signs of optimism in the market and even as overall consumer sentiments are improving, discretionary spending levels is yet to witness a makeover," said Manish Yadav, Market Analyst, Client Devices, IDC India. “As a result, inventories continue to build up and vendors are hoping for a seasonal turnaround in Q3 2015.” [caption id=“attachment_1180391” align=“alignleft” width=“380”] ![Representational image. Getty[/caption] The commercial PC segment recorded 1.04 million unit shipments in Q2 2015 i.e. a 4.5 percent quarter on quarter growth against Q1 2015. “Various announcements and initiatives made by the government on boosting economic growth had positive impact on the sentiments of the business community; however in order to sustain this buoyancy it is vital that implementation of reforms continues at a steady pace,” stated Kiran Kumar, Research Manager, Client Devices, IDC India. HP retained its top spot with market of 26.4 percent in the India PC market. It grew by 2.6 percent quarter on quarter over Q1 2015. Thriving high on commercial business, the vendor has recorded the highest growth rate of 17.7 percent quarter on quarter owing to strong enterprise engagements and spending from SMBs, which  fuelled up their growth in Q2 2015. Dell captured the second spot with a market share of 21.6 percent. Dell has now recorded an overall negative growth for two quarters in a row. However, the vendor is expected to bounce back by virtue of its strong channel presence and improved partner engagements in SMB and enterprise business. Lenovo took the third spot with 18.1 percent market share in the quarter. Improved focus on mid-market accounts, maintaining a balanced inventory health and expanding coverage will help them boost their overall growth in the coming quarters. “India PC market is looking to recuperate in due course of time. Festive buying is expected to drive a positive growth in consumer spending and last leg of ELCOT fulfilments are expected to lead to an overall growth in the PC market in the succeeding two quarters,” added Kumar.
