The efforts of Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) to improve the gender ratio in their classrooms seem to have finally paid off as data from five IIMs – Calcutta, Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Lucknow and Indore – show that the institutes are set to welcome a record number of women into the 2013-15 batch.
According to a report in the Economic Times, the top three IIMs - Ahmedabad, Bangalore and Calcutta - have received a total of 294 acceptances or confirmations from women students as compared to 215 for the 2012-14 batch.

IIM Calcutta which is awarding 3 points (out of 100) to female candidates for the first time this year will see a 50 percent jump in the number of women making it to the elite B-school as 107 girls will walk into the campus today against just 51 last year.
IIM-Bangalore, on the other hand, has worked out a formula where at the shortlisting stage, instead of considering the CAT final score, the score at each stage of the eliminating exam, like quantitative test, logical test and English is given equal weight.
By giving weight to each section, the institute has helped women reach the cut-off and get into the shortlist at the pre-interview stage. The result: 108 women made it to the 2013 batch at IIM-B against 100 last year. Even IIM-Ahmedabad saw around 80 acceptances from women this year against 64 last year.
New IIMs such as IIM Rohtak, IIM Kashipur and IIM Udaipur have also put on marked efforts to attract talented young women into the final talent pool by adding weight to diversity.
