Online restaurant guide Zomato and taxi hailing app Uber have entered into a partnership to enable users to book cabs to the restaurant they are planning to eat at. Once a user has found a place to dine at or have drinks at using the Zomato app, a tap on the Uber button on the restaurant page will allow one to find the nearest Uber cab. Zomato will bring the Uber experience to the Zomato app, enabling users to book cabs to the restaurant they are planning to eat at, the two companies said in a statement. Commenting on the development, Zomato Co-Founder and COO Pankaj Chaddah said: “This partnership makes eating out more convenient with the Zomato app connecting to Uber services seamlessly.” “We are delighted to be expanding the scope of our partnership with Zomato. Across six continents, Uber allows riders to connect with their cities in new ways,” Uber Head of Business - Asia, Eric Alexander said. Earlier this month, Uber decided to offer customers free rides to IPL cricket matches if they buy the passes from online ticketing platform BookMyShow, as part of efforts to expand its user base. Uber customers will get two free rides worth Rs 400. Meanwhile, Uber also partnered with IPL teams Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kolkata Knight Riders to offer discounted rides for passengers in their home cities, as well as an opportunity to win merchandise and match tickets by engaging customers on social media. Given the intense competition in the online taxi-hailing space, Ola couldn’t be left behind. On April 21, it announced that it is the ‘Official Cab Partner’ for five Indian Premier League 2015 teams - Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai Indians, Rajasthan Royals, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kings XI Punjab. Ola is also offering fans in Mumbai, Chennai, Pune, Ahmedabad, Chandigarh, Hyderabad and Vishakhapatnam, a chance to win free tickets to watch IPL matches in their cities. The IPL icon in the Ola app appears on match days between 11am and 2pm. Customers can hit the icon (just like they do to book a cab), and get free tickets to go and watch their favorite teams. Fans also stand a chance to win hospitality tickets by participating in contests on Twitter using #OlaMatchDay by tweeting to @Olacabs.
