Etihad’s India romance:Jet or Kingfisher deal likely next week

Abu Dhabi’s Etihad Airways is in final stages of talks with Indian carriers Jet Airways  and Kingfisher Airlines to buy a stake in either of them and a deal could come by next week, a top government official said today.

“Etihad has not yet decided. They are talking to both,” said the official who asked not to be named.

A relative newcomer to the aviation business, the nine year old Abu Dhabi-based carrier has been on an acquisition drive this past year, taking minority equity stakes in Virgin Australia and Aer Lingus and raising its shareholding in Air Berlin and Air Seychelles, according to news reports.
