In an attempt to strengthen its reach into the Internet of Things, Amazon has acquired 2lemetry, a startup that has developed a platform for the integration of connected devices across enterprises. Financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed. Founded in 2011, 2lemetry is an Internet of Things platform and technology company that powers the connected enterprise, tying people, processes, data and devices together—transforming raw data into real-time actionable intelligence. Our existing service has not changed, and with Amazon we will offer our same customer support. We still have the same name and branding as before,” 2lemetry said on its website. Amazon has been making moves in IoT. The company, in 2013, introduced Kinesis which is a fully managed service for real-time processing of high-volume, streaming data. It allows customer to store and process terabytes of data an hour from hundreds of thousands of sources, making it easy to write applications that take action on real-time data such as web site click-streams, marketing and financial transactions, social media feeds, logs and metering data and location-tracking events. 2lemetry’s acquisition is expected to give a boost to Amazon’s IoT strategy in the enterprise segment.
