After Kolkata, 4G in Bangalore in 30 days

After Kolkata, 4G in Bangalore in 30 days

Bharti Airtel plans to launch its 4G services in Bangalore within 30 days, an executive said, after the country’s largest mobile phone carrier launched the service in Kolkata earlier on Tuesday.

In 2010, Airtel had successfully bid for BWA license spectrum in Kolkata, Karnataka, Punjab and Maharashtra (excluding Mumbai) circles. It is currently working towards rolling out state-of-the-art networks in Bangalore, Pune and Chandigarh.

Bharti Airtel, India’s first 4G provide has selected Huawei as the network supplier for the Karnataka circle. In the next phase, Airtel will launch LTE services in Pune and Chandigarh. Airtel will focus on both individuals and enterprises. The company has selected Nokia Siemens for Maharashtra, while it is yet to decide the network partner for Chandigarh.

Bharti and its rivals paid a total Rs 38,543 crore to buy fourth-generation (4G) wireless broadband spectrum in a 2010 government auction, which saw bids at much higher prices than initially expected.

Bharti managed to win 4G spectrum in just four of India’s 22 telecoms zones in the auction, paying Rs 3,314 crore for spectrum in the Maharashtra, Karnataka, Kolkata and Punjab zones.
