According to a report by Mumbai Mirror, Nanda had left a Rs 20 crore of her estate, including the posh apartment, a commercial space at Four Bungalows, land parcels in Shahpur in Thane district, jewelry. silverware, stocks, cash, bank deposits and other movables to a trust.

As per the same report, she ahd put her chartered accountant Rajnikant Shah and business partner Nargis Hirji in charge of executing the will. Since she left little for her family, they have challenged the authenticity of the script and pointed out that there was no reason for Nanda to appoint her CA and business partner to take care of the estate.

Her family includes two brothers  Subhash Karnatki and Jayprakash Karnatki along with the children of a deceased brother and three deceased sisters. They have alleged in their suit that Hirji and Shah refused to share with them copies of the will, the Deed of Settlement of the trust which now holds a bulk of her assets and a handwritten list of jewelry owned by the deceased actor, who died of a heart attack in 2014.

In their defense, Hirji and Shah claim that Nanda was disappointed in her family as they were not by her side in her darkest hour in spite of she always supporting them in their younger days.

Nanda began her career in the Hindi cinema as a child artiste in the 1952 film Jaggu and went on to charter a career that spanned for over three decades before she acted in her last film Ravi Chopra's Mazdoor in 1983. She is remembered for her nuanced performances in Ittefaq, Joru Ka Ghulam, Kanoon and Raja Saab.
