But back when Tim Miller was announced to direct the movie, it raised a few eyebrows. Deadpool — a film with much at stake — was to be 50-year-old's first feature length project.
Ironically, it was a DC project the got the director the big job of bringing the Marvel character to life.
In 2010, Miller's Blur Studio worked on a short for a DC multiplayer online game, DC Universe Online. Directed by Miller himself, the short was subsequently premiered at the San Diego Comic Con, reports Slash Film.
The action-packed short featured all DC superweights including Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Flash, and many more.
In a recent Time Out Dubai interview, Miller talked about how after watching the short, a Fox executive bought him in to work on some action choreography for X-Men: First Class. Following the stint, it was suggested he direct Deadpool.
Miller was all for it. And the rest, as they say, is history.
