The quirky trailer of Sriya Reddy’s Andava Kaanom has gone viral; it has crossed over 2 lakh views in a single day. It is said to be a women-centric film set in a remote village in Theni. Sriya plays the lead and it is her comeback film post marriage.
The well cut trailer is laced with comedy and a voice over by popular hero Vijay Sethupathi as the Andava (a copper utensil used by women in villages). The director Velu has narrated a story about a woman who loses her Andava, which results in a law and order situation in a remote village.
Sriya Reddy is daughter of former India Wicket Keeper Bharat Reddy. She is married to Vikram Reddy, the producer and elder brother of popular Tamil actor and Nadigar Sangam chief Vishal. She played a pivotal role in the Priyadarsan classic Kanchivaram for which she got a Filmfare nomination and also performed the negative role in much talked about Thimiru.
The film’s producer, J. Sathish Kumar, says it has title value as the film set in a village is about a search for a missing utensil (anda), which leads to a big figh. The entire story happens in a day from morning to night and the film also takes pot shots at the crumbling social and political milieu. Sriya is the only known actress as others are from the village itself.
In an earlier interview to The Hindu, Sriya Reddy said: “I didn’t want to be known as a sexy actor. I wanted my ten minutes that will make the viewers say now that’s an actor. I returned to acting because of Andava Kaanom. It was my husband and brother-in-law who heard the story first, and when I was hesitating to take the offer they said I should take it.”
Sriya Reddy has tweeted about her film as well:
