The trailer of Rocky Handsome is exactly what you would expect it to be: A John Abraham showpiece with ample view of his biceps, eight pack abs and his swagger.
It is a short one minute affair that does not tell you much but there's probably nothing much to tell, anyway. In the trailer, Abraham introduces himself and a child actor who will drive the emotional core of the story. Interestingly, Shruti Hassan is supposed to be a part of the cast but is nowhere to be seen in the teaser.
Rocky Handsome is rumoured to be loosely "inspired" by a Korean film called The Man From Nowhere. Frankly the story looks pretty clichéd; that of a man going on a rampage to either protect or avenge a child.
From Leon to Taken, we have seen the same ethoes time and again, and with Rocky Handsome, it will take an exceptional performance and jaw dropping action to make it watchable, unless you are a fan of hardcore, bone crushing action.
Director Nishikant Kamat had a promising start to his career, with budget experiments such as Dombivili Fast and Mumbai Meri Jaan.
But since then he has been remaking films from other languages such as Force (Kakha Kakha), Drishyam and now Rocky Handsome. Hopefully he does some original work next time. As for John Abraham, he seems to be trying too hard to occupy the spot left vacant by the likes of Sunny Deol and Sanjay Dutt.
