We have been complaining about poor content on Indian television for more than a decade now. But going by the trailer of P.O.W. - Bandi Yuddh Ke, an upcoming Star Plus show, it looks like things are changing now.
Nikkhil Advani's last film Katti Batti, was unsuccessful, but he seems to be back in all his elements with this show. Said to be an adaptation of the Israeli television show Hatufim, it has Purab Kohli, Amrita Puri, Sandhya Mridul, Satyadeep Mishra playing the lead roles.
The American TV series Homeland was also based on the same Israeli show fuelling reports that POW is a rip off of Homeland. However Advani has clarified that the show is not an adaptation of the American show.
Speaking to The Times of India, the Kal Ho Na Ho director said,"The thing about Homeland is that, that kind of CIA does not exist in India. We don't do our investigations on computers, we do our investigations with the local paanwaala. That's what we see on shows like CID, which has been going on for almost 17 years."
A dramatic trailer, the powerful scenes leave you with a goose flesh. P.O.W. - Bandi Yuddh Ke narrates the lives of two Indian soldiers who were taken as prisoners of war during the 1999 Kargil War. Portrayed by Purab Kohli and Satyadeep Mishra, these soldiers manage to escape and return to their family after 17 years of separation. But now things aren't the same — neither their families nor their profession.
In an interview to Deccan Chronicle, Advani speaks about this new phase for television, "The border between the small screen and the big screen, the mini screen and the iPad has completely vanished. We have top writers and directors doing some of the most prolific work on television like Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad and House of Cards, which are simply outstanding. So, yes this is the time for TV."
The Times of India reports that the show will be a 125 episode series beginning on 14 October.
