Vishal Dadlani-Tarun Sagar row: Musician seeks Jain guru's forgiveness in person

In the latest development in the Vishal Dadlani-Tarun Sagar row, the Pentagram frontman has apologised to the Jain monk in person.

On Wednesday morning, Dadlani visited Tarun Sagar in Chandigarh at the Digambar Jain temple, Sector 27 , and asked for the monk's forgiveness for his 'hurtful' tweets of August.

The incident occurred last month, when Tarun Sagar had addressed the Haryana State Assembly. Dadlani had tweeted "What sort of monkery is this?" referring to the Jain religious leader's lack of attire.

However, Dadlani's tweet invited a massive backlash — and an FIR for hurting the Jain community's sentiments.

In the aftermath of the controversy, Dadlani resigned from the Aam Aadmi Party, in addition to issuing several apologies for his original tweet. Tarun Sagar himself was quoted by ANI as saying:  "I don't think he (Vishal) knows anything about Jainism or our beliefs. Also, the question of apology doesn't arise as I am not angry with him in the first place."

In the meantime, Dadlani's legal woes escalated as the Supreme Court refused to entertain his lawyer's plea for anticipatory bail on 7 September. Instead, it directed him to approach the concerned high court.

Hindustan Times reported that Dadlani reached the Digambar Jain temple at around 9.30 am on Wednesday (21 September) and his meeting with Tarun Sagar lasted over 20 minutes. He also met with the Digambar Jain society in Chandigarh.

Dadlani was quoted as saying: "I regret whatever I had said earlier. Unknowingly, I had commented about guru ji. But after hearing his ‘kadve parvachan’ (harsh words), I found them sweet."

NDTV quoted Dadlani as saying, "Guruji accepted my apology, he has forgiven me and I think we've also developed a bond of friendship."

There is no information at present on the status of the FIR against Dadlani.
