Veteran television actor Sudha Shivpuri, who became a household name after her portrayal of Baa in the popular Hindi show Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, passed away at the age of 77 in Mumbai on Wednesday. Shivpuri was married to late actor Om Shivpuri and was part of the entertainment industry since an early age. She was known for her roles in Hindi films like Pinjar, Maya Memsaab as well as the international movie Outsourced. But her landmark role was that of matriarch Amba Virani aka Baa in the long-running Ekta Kapoor production Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. She played the grandmother of the family and was part of the show despite several time leaps. The role won her several awards as well. Shivpuri’s co-star on the show, HRD Minister Smriti Irani spoke to APB News on her demise saying, I’m abroad right now representing India at a UNESCO meeting and I just came to know to know about Baa’s death. All I can say is that Sudhaji and I shared screen space for almost 10-12 years and she was an important part of my life. Even though she has left for her heavenly abode, her teachings and values will always be with me." “Our relationship extended beyond the serial and she would often call me when I was in a difficult situation and was always there to bless me. Sudha Aunty and I were great friends. She was more than a tv show character, she became a grandmother to everyone,” Irani continued. “People used to joke that Baa would live on forever when the show was running, and I would say that even though she isn’t with us anymore, Sudha aunty will live on in our memories,” she added. Many people, including television personalities, took to Twitter to talk about Shivpuri.

Rest in eternal peace Sudha Shivpuri maam. You and Om Shivpuri sir were teacher's&guides of great proportion.am blessed to be your student.
