'Shocked & appalled': Sarod maestro Amjad Ali Khan tweets after UK denies visa

Even before the controversy over the detention of Bollywood start Shah Rukh Khan at the Los Angeles International Airport on Thursday died down, sarod maestro Amjad Ali Khan on Friday tweeted out that his application for a British visa has been rejected.

The sarod maestro also tagged External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj in his tweets. Till this report was filed, the minister has not responded to his tweets.

The sarod maestro seemed to be extremely disappointed as he also expressed the same on his Facebook page.

"Shocked & appalled....my ‪#‎UK‬ visa has been rejected today. I am scheduled to perform at the Royal Festival Hall in September. Extremely sad situation for artists who are spreading the message of love and peace across the globe. I have been performing almost every year in UK since the early 70s including performances for The Prince of Wales on many occasion," he said in the update.

Reacting to the Facebook update, Amjad Ali Khan's wife Subhalakshmi Khan said, "Artists are special and need to be treated with care. Hope and pray that world realises the value of an artist..but "When " ??? is the big question... God help us..."

Following Shah Rukh Khan's tweets on his experience in the US, the country's Ambassador to India Richard Verma apologised saying the Bollywood star is an inspiration for millions, even in the US.

Earlier, another senior US diplomat of Indian origin had also tweeted out an apology, which the superstar duly accepted and acknowledged. US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia Nisha Biswal tweeted: "Sorry for the hassle at the airport, @iamsrk - even American diplomats get pulled for extra screening!", to which Shah Rukh replied saying he appreciates her "graciousness."
