It was back in 2002 that actor Salman Khan became the accused in a hit and run case. Eleven years later, on Monday, a Mumbai court announced that Khan will be charged with "culpable homicide not amounting to murder".
The decision has come as blow to the actor. If proven guilty, Khan could be sentenced to as long as ten years of imprisonment. Some would be cowed by such a turn of circumstances. Salman Khan, on the other hand, has decided that the Internet is going to be his ally in this case. Instead of shying away from the media or trying to milk audiences for sympathy, the actor has launched a website which will make public all the information regarding this case.
The website www.salmankhanfiles.com has a note from Khan himself in the header. "Certain court cases are filed against me." writes Khan. "There is widespread media reporting of these cases. The reports are sometimes inaccurate and misleading and cause damage to my reputation, both professional and personal. I have been advised to put up this website to provide easily accessible factual information about the ongoing status of my cases."
The website will be updated by Khan's lawyers and will not contain any information regarding the merits of any case or any comments. Khan has advised the media to verify their facts from this website. Watch his space.
