Ricky Gervais will reprise his role as the overly enthusiastic and creepy boss in the mockumentary style movie based on the hit TV show The Office. David Brent: Life on the Road will be coming to Netflix in the US in 2017.
Netflix announced in a news release Thursday that it acquired the U.S. and select international rights to the film. A theatrical release is set for August and Netflix will stream the movie in 2017.
The movie will have a documentary crew catching up with David Brent 12 years after the BBC2 documentary.
Brent is now a travelling salesman and a struggling rock star. He tries to realize his dream of rock stardom by self-financing a tour with his band which is aptly called ‘Foregone Conclusion’.
Though the movie doesn't feature anyone from the original ensemble from The Office, the new star billing is an interesting mix. The star-cast includes Ben Bailey Smith (aka ‘Doc Brown’) and comedian Tom Basden as Dan, Brent’s road manager. The new office set has colleagues like Pauline(Jo Hartley), comedic Nigel (Tom Bennett), and the arch-nemesis Jezza (Andrew Brooke).
