Ranveer Singh to be replaced by Shah Rukh Khan in Padmavati by 'furious' Bhansali?

We're filing this under 'rumours' for now.

But it was far too juicy a piece of speculation to miss out on.

Reports suggest that Ranveer Singh may not be playing the role of Allaudin Khilji in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Padmavati.

The Times of India reports that Bhansali was 'furious' with his star (Singh) because he asked for a bound script for Padmavati.

This development has apparently spurred Bhansali to consider casting other actors, with his former favourite Shah Rukh Khan being the leading contender.

Bhansali and Ranveer Singh have had a fruitful association since they made Goliyon Ki Rasleela: Ram-Leela and then Bajirao Mastani together. The team was completed by Deepika Padukone.

Padmavati was set to be the third film that would have Bhansali-Singh-Padukone working together again.

When reports emerged that Padukone may have been paid Rs 12 crore for Padmavati (that's been quite the 'glass ceiling' for actresses to break) it seemed only a matter of time before a confirmation would be made about Singh's casting as well.

However, while the actor has been busy vacationing in Budapest (as per his Instagram account) these rumours of him being 'replaced' are doing the rounds back home in Mumbai.

There has been a lot of confusion over the male actors in Padmavati — although Singh as Allaudin Khilji was considered certain. It was for the role of Rani Padmini's husband — Raja Rawal Ratan Singh — that various names, from Vicky Kaushal to Shahid Kapoor, were being considered.

We're taking the talk with a pinch of salt. But if there's an update coming in, we'll be the first to tell you.
