In a statement to Times Now, the actor has issued apology and claimed responsibility for his actions. "I'm sorry this happened. We got it wrong on billboards. We have rectified the mistake and the ad was withdrawn immediately," he said.

A couple of weeks before the release of his next film Befikre, Singh has chosen not to go the carefree way in this case and has responded positively to all the criticism that he received on Twitter, including from Tamil actor Siddharth, who dubbed the ad as a #fail and expressed his disappointment in the creative team for projecting such a regressive idea.

Singh featured in an ad in which he, decked up in western formals, was shown carrying a woman on his shoulders while a lift boy in the background sported a smirk. The billboard ad, which was displayed in 12 cities, shouted out, "Don't hold back. Take your work home."

Twitter outraged over the ad that not only projected women as sex objects but also was insensitive towards the grave issue of women harassment at workplace. A complaint against the ad was registered in the Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI) forcing the MNC to withdraw the ad at once.

Though the brand issued apology to the complainants, Singh's fans were expecting an apology from the actor who is said to take keen interest in the scripting of all his commercials. Singh has finally broken the silence on the issue and issued an apology.

The fans are glad that Singh has chosen not to hold back his apology and agreed that giving star power to the regressive ad was a bad decision.
