Udaipur: Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor sent an apology through his lawyer to a court here on Thursday, apologising for smoking in a public place but claimed it was part of the shoot of a film.
The actor was summoned by the court to appear before it in connection with a case for allegedly smoking in public.
Ranbir did not appear before the court in person but sent the apology through the lawyer but at the same time stated that the incident when he was photographed smoking in public was a scene of the film Jawani Diwani which was being shot in Udaipur.
The next court hearing of the case is on 27 August.
The actor had gone to Udaipur to shoot Jawani Diwani and was seen smoking at Gangaur Ghat, a location of the shooting near Lake Pichola in Ghantaghar Police station Area.
Harish, a resident of Jagdish Chowk, had filed a complaint with Ghantaghar police station on 1 June under section 5/1 of the Rajasthan Smoking Prohibition Act 2010.
The police had collected evidence from newspaper reports and video of the event and found Ranbir prima facie guilty of the offence.
