Mammootty's Thoppil Joppan has finally got a green signal from the Censor Board and will be releasing on Friday 7 October with a U certificate. According to Asianet Newsable the film will be releasing in 105 theatres across Kerala.
Recently the film faced a temporary stay order by the Ernakulam District Court after a producer, Shibu, accused the film's makers of copyright infringement. However the producers have promised that the film will be releasing as per plan.
Speaking to Manorama Online, producer Noushad Alathoor said, "I don't really know anything about who lodged a complaint alleging that I have taken money from him. The complete responsibility as a producer lays upon me and how can someone else take the take the credit for it."
The film had already seen several delays. The film was set to be an Onam release. However after Kasaba's release the makers postponed it as they did not want two back-to-back Mammootty releases.
In the film Mammootty will be seen playing the role of a Kabaddi player, who gives into alcohol to overcome his pain over a broken relationship. The actor will be again playing the role of a Kottayam ‘achayan’ clad in his classic juba-mundu with a Ray-Ban glasses. The actor has taken on this look in many of his earlier films and fans have always loved it.
The film also stars Mamta Mohandas and Andrea Jeremiah as the female leads.
Thoppil Joppan also marks the comeback of the popular director-actor jodi Johny Antony and Mammootty for their fourth collaboration after having worked in film Thappana, Ee Pattanathil Bhootham and Thuruppu Gulan.
Mohanlal's Pulimurugan will also be releasing this weekend. The Malayali audience haven't witnessed such a clash between the two superstars after 2001 when Mohanlal's Ravanaprabhu and Mammootty's Rakshasarajavu released on Onam.
