The Telegu film Eega is also one of the 18 movies to be short listed as India’s nominations for entry in the foreign film category at next year’s Oscars.

Eega is the only Telugu film on the list. In the film, a housefly plays the protagonist’s role, while Kannada actor Sudeep plays the antagonist, who kills a young man who falls for the same girl as him.

Makkhi is Rajamouli’s official debut in Bollywood although many of his films have been remade in Hindi.

For film-goers, used to seeing cute dogs, cats, monkeys or deadly snakes in Indian cinema or dinosaurs or Godzillas in Hollywood, a not-so-loveable housefly may seem like a not-so-superhit idea. However, Eega has already rocked box office in Southern India. What remains to be seen is how it will fair nationwide.
