by May 31, 2012

Chennai: Vidya Balan starrer Kahaani is to be remade in Tamil and Telugu.

TV production house Endemol India Private Ltd, which owns the remake rights, and Tamil industry partner Nemichand Jhabhak Productions are in talks with top three directors of Kollywood for the venture.

Kahaani, which had a box office collection of Rs 100 crores, was quite hot in the remake market and Endemol has snapped the deal for Tamil and Telugu amidst stiff competition.

This will be Endemol’s foray in to the lucrative Tamil market.

Industry sources said the role essayed by Vidya Balan will be replayed by one of the two top heroins of the Tamil film industry.

Language cross-over, in which regional language films are remade in Hindi and vice versa, is gaining considerable currency in the Indian film industry.

Smart production houses of late design their projects with the remake markets in mind. Although cross-over among the southern languages has been quite common, migration of southern films to Bollywood and vice versa is a new trend.

In the recent past, A Wednesday and Dabbang found its way to Tamil, while many movies from Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam such as Pokkiri and Bodyguard have been remade in Hindi.
