After films like Azhar and M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story, there is yet another cricket film coming up. Phantom Productions is all set to make a film on India's golden moment in cricketing history when we won the 1983 World Cup under Kapil Dev's leadership.
Kabir Khan will be directing the film after he completes Tubelight with Salman Khan.
Mumbai Mirror reports, "It goes on the floors later this year, as soon as Kabir wraps up the in-progress Tubelight with Salman Khan. A-list actors who play the cricketing heroes are in the process of being finalised. Kapil Dev, Madan Lal, Mohinder Amarnath, Kirti Azad, Krishmachari Srikkanth, Syed Kirmani, Yashpal Sharma, Balwinder Sandhu and even Sunil Gavaskar who had to skip the earlier meet because it was his 67th birthday, will be on board as mentors to the actors."
Not only will the film focus on the matches but also on the background of these Indian heroes and the situation of the country during the World Cup.
While there has been no confirmation on the cast, The Asian Age suggests that Arjun Kapoor might be playing the role of captain Kapil Dev.
The report further reveals that the film was initially supposed to be directed by Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan, who also wrote the script. But due to his non-availability he will now only be the scriptwriter, while Kabir Khan takes the mantle of director.
